"Toontrack’s EZ Drummer is an easy-to-use drum sampler with exceptional samples in the vein of the company’s previous effort ? Dfh Superior ? But with a simplified interface. However, the library comes with only a small selection of drums compared to the enormous libraries of dfh Superior, Superior Custom & Vintage and Fxpansion’s BFD. The EZX expansion packs remedy that situation, enabling EZ Drummer to be voiced for a much wider range of music.



The EZX Drumkit From Hell library provides EZ Drummer users with all of the kit pieces from the original dfh release and the subsequent expansion pack, plus a selection of MIDI files that can be dragged from the EZ Drummer plug-in and dropped into your DAW. The kit pieces from the library are ideal for hard rock and metal drumming, and with five toms and 11 cymbals active simultaneously, even the most over-zealous speed-metal drummer should find something to hit with the virtual drumsticks. Several of the kit pieces can be swapped out and replaced with different instruments; in some cases the alternative instruments may be a version of the existing instrument but with different processing applied, such as the options for damped/undamped and clean or EQ’ed kick drums and snares.



The MIDI performances are supplied courtesy of Fredrik Thorendal (Meshuggah) and Ove Lingvall (Nocturnal Rites) and provide a superb starting point for metal tracks. Programming your own grooves with this many kit pieces can rapidly become something of a headache, and it’s a good idea to at least get any idea of the groove you’re looking for by checking out the supplied MIDI files first, but with so many options open to you, it would be a shame to rely on them exclusively.



Verdict: If metal or hard rock is your thing and you’re looking for an easy way to create complex, authentic beats but you’re lacking a drummer, EZX Drumkit From Hell provides an ideal starting point."
