『SDX - DEATH & DARKNESS』は、デスメタルなどのアンダーグラウンド・メタル向けに特化したSDX拡張ライブラリです。

2箇所のワールドクラスのスタジオで、“Mark Lewis”（Cannibal Corpse、Whitechapel、Coal Chamber）、“Tue Madsen”（Meshuggah、Behemoth、Hatesphere）という2人のメタル音楽プロデューサーによって制作されています。

本作はスタジオごとに1種類ずつ、2種類のSDXを一本化しています。「DEATH」パートは“Mark Lewis”によって、テキサス州トルニーロに位置する[Sonic Ranch]でレコーディングを行いました。スタジオデザイナー“Vincent van Haaff”によって作り上げられたメインルームは、密度の高さ、暖かみのある空間、共鳴度の良さ、バランスの取れた自然なリバーブを生み出す。他に類を見ないアコースティックな空間でレコーディングされました。

対照的に「DARKNESS」パートは、ドラムのよりダークで、生々しい音色といった「DEATH」パートとは全く異なり、ドラムの激しさを追求した音源になっています。デンマークのオーフスに位置し、“Tue Madsen”がチーフを務める[Antfarm Studio]にてレコーディングを行いました。

2箇所のスタジオ、2人の現代的なメタル音楽プロデューサーによって制作された、総容量184GBに及ぶドラムサウンドを是非体感してください。厚い壁を切り裂き、穴を開けるほどにパワーのあるドラムミックスが行えます。爆発的なビート、猛烈なスピードのデスメタルから、ハードコア、メタルコア、プログレッシブメタルからインスピレーションを得たハイブリッドまで、様々なスタイルに最適なコレクションです。

デンマークのオーフス郊外にあるこの普通の2階建ての家の外観からは、その質素な外観の裏に、数え切れないほどのメタル・クラシックが不朽の名作となったスタジオがあるとは想像できないでしょう。その指揮を執っていたのは、今も昔もこの場所一番のモジョ、Tue Madsenでした。つい最近、新しい場所に移る前の彼のユニークな部屋を撮影できたのは幸運でした。

THE POOL STORY.

「プールとスタジオの関係は、ほとんど偶然に始まったんだ。当時はもっと小さなスタジオを持っていたんだけど、ドラム・ルームがなくなったからドラム・キットを置く場所がなくなって…プールが空いていたから、そこに置いてみたんだ。ある日、息子のためにドラムセットを置いて遊ばせようと思ったんだけど、初めてバスドラを叩いたとき、最高に気持ちよかったんだ。ScorpionsやBon Joviの80年代のレコードを同時に演奏したような音だった。巨大なスタジアム・サウンドだ！何人かの友人にそのことを話し始め、地元のハードコアバンドのために短いテストレコーディングをした。そこからアイデアが形になっていった。Heaven Shall Burnの友人Alexがこのアイデアをとても気に入ってくれて、バンドの次のアルバム『Invictus』のドラムをこのスタジオで録音したいと言ってくれて、ファーストアルバムのレコーディングが始まったんだ。スタジオは同じ建物内にもなかったので、レコーディングをするために窓を開け、ドアから外の階段にマルチケーブルを通さなければならなかった。めちゃくちゃだったけど、音は素晴らしかった。実際、次のアルバム『Veto』もそこで録音した。それ以来、多くのアルバムがプールをドラム・ルームとして使ってレコーディングされた：『The Haunted』、『Moonspell』、『Sick of It All』、『HateSphere』、『Ildisposed』、『Ektomorf』、『Mnemic』、『Cataract』、『Born from Pain』、『Velvet Volume』、『The Boy That Got Away』、『I'll Be Damned』。プールは非常にハードでアグレッシブなアタックを聴かせてくれるが、ルームマイクを使えば、もっとソフトで "ワシャワシャした "サウンドを出すこともできる。何年もの間、常にインスピレーションを与えてくれた。部屋の寸法によって、いくつかの周波数はクレイジーになり、極端なサウンドを得るために使うことができる。ドラムキットの後ろのコーナーにはいつもRøde NT 1000マイクをセットしていた。」 - Tue Madsen

SONIC RANCH.

ピーカン果樹園、ブドウの木、息をのむようなパノラマの中にあるSonic Ranchは、レコーディング・スタジオとしてはまさに唯一無二の環境を備えています。リオ・グランデ川とオールド・メキシコに接し、2,300エーカーの人里離れた土地に位置するこの場所は、単にレコーディングする場所ではなく、創造する場所なのです。

「Sonic Ranchは、そこで初めてレコーディングをして以来、私のお気に入りの仕事場のひとつだ。世界最高峰のスタジオのひとつで、最高の機材、素晴らしい部屋、そして私が今までいた中で最も集中でき、刺激的な仕事環境が整っている。機材から人々、食事から雰囲気まで、そこでこの重要なプロジェクトを立ち上げるのは当然のことだった。その結果に感激している。」 - Mark Lewis

FUN FACTS.
  • Sonic Ranchは、世界最大の住宅用レコーディング・スタジオ複合施設です（敷地面積は2300エーカー）。
  • 収録に使われた"Neve Room "には、世界最大のNeveコンソール（31105マイクプリ/EQとフライングフェーダーの80チャンネル）があります。このヴィンテージのNeve 8078の左側は、ウエストコースト・モータウンのオリジナル・コンソールだった。後にマドンナの "ブルックリン "スタジオに設置された。このコンソールはその後、別の8078と組み合わされ、現在はSonic Ranchに常設されています。
  • スタジオには80本以上のギターがあり、すべて年代別にラベルが貼られています。1951年製Fender NocasterやGibson Les Paul Goldtop（G.E. Smithが以前所有していたもの）などがあります。

各セッションで使用するドラムは、Toontrackのチームとともに、MarkとTueによってそれぞれ厳選されました。その目的は、可能な限り幅広い音色と素材の違いを提供することでした。レギュラー・キットとシンバル・コレクションに加え、多数の追加楽器がレコーディングされました。

「SDX」の特徴

「SDX」（エスディーエックス）とは、『SUPERIOR DRUMMER 3』エンジンにロードして使用可能なドラムの ”サウンドバンク” をスタジオ別に収録した『SUPERIOR DRUMMER 3』 専用拡張音源シリーズです。

「SDX」には、それぞれのドラム・サウンドに完璧にマッチし、かつ使いやすく分類された、数百にも及ぶMIDI グルーヴ・ファイルが用意されています。つまり「SDX」を『SUPERIOR DRUMMER 3』エンジンに追加する事で、お好きなドラム・サウンドとプロドラマーのグルーヴが手に入るのです。

「SDX」をロードすると、そのドラムキットの音色が『SUPERIOR DRUMMER 3』 エンジンに読み込まれ、キットの構成が一目瞭然となる他、実際のドラムを叩いているかのような視覚的なプレビューや、ドラムパッドを繋いだ演奏が可能となります。

一流のプロの手によってレコーディング＆ミックスされたサウンド、そしてMIDI グルーブを、低価格で、『SUPERIOR DRUMMER 3』 に追加可能になるというわけです。

動作環境
  • 本製品をご利用頂くためには、『SUPERIOR DRUMMER 3』(v3.1.4以上)が必要です。
  • 本製品は、『SUPERIOR DRUMMER 2.0』上ではご利用いただけません。
  • 『EZ DRUMMER』/『EZ DRUMMER 2』上ではご利用頂けません。
  • ハードディスクに100GB以上の空き領域(インストール時はインストーラを含め約倍の空き容量が必要となります)
  • 8GBのRAMメモリ(16GB以上を推奨)
  • 本製品をご使用いただくにはインターネット経由でのチャレンジ＆レスポンスによるオーソライズが必要となります。オーソライズにはインターネットへの接続環境、及びE-Mailアドレスが必要となります。本製品をインストールするコンピュータがインターネット接続されていなくても、別なコンピュータで接続できればオーソライズ可能です。
